Background
Ashalaya works with children in the villages much like the Head Start Programmes in the USA. Besides early childhood education, nutritious meals are also served.
Eearly Learning Centers(ELCs)
Ashalaya runs 8 Early Learning Centers in different villages in which as many as 254 children who live in the villages and quarries attend classes from 8.30 a m to 3p.m. Teachers are now proficient in using the play way Methods which makes learning more interesting and meaningful to the children. “We are thankful to TdH_NL for the new venture shown to us to attract children and thereby create in them a strong foundation of educational interest. Children‘s Mela in ELCs give new ideas and interest to the parents.”
Tuition Centers
Ashalaya conducts evening tuition in order to inculcate in them interests in studies and give additional support for subjects they find it difficult. At present we have 744 students who are under our care. They have monthly cultural programmes, games and sports conducted to sustain their all round interest. This is carried out as an activity that prevents children from dropping out of schools.
Summer Camp:
Children of our vicinity wait for a particular month, that is , April Where all the evening tuition students get a chance to forget their routine type of life and to mingle with their friends in neighboring schools. Ashalaya conducts summer camp for school –going children of the vicinity. Through this camp we are helping the children to develop their overall ability .It trains then in personality development community building and opportunity to interact with all type of people without any barriers. Also they learn to be in unity, integrity and bond of love. They enjoy sports and cultural programmes during these days guidance from different resource persons enrich the life of these students we end this programme with an educational tour which they enjoy very much.
Medical Camp:
Medical camp is conducted for women and children in the surrounding villages to have health awareness for better living. Conducting seminars campaigns and advocacy independently and also in collaboration with NGOs and other forums on the issue pertaining to children and women. The purpose of medical camp is to link health with development.
Community play at village level: Various forms of physical activities including dance, music, sports for men and youth, games for women besides fun activities for children were performed during the community Play. While introducing new games, traditional games were identified and encouraged. Prizes were distributed for the winners. Local people donated the prizes. A number of men, women, youth and children participated in the programme.
TdH-NL supported Ashalaya for the construction of the Vocational Training Centre. The inauguration of the building was held on 12th January 2010 @ Vidhya Nagar, Bangalore North. Mr. Lei Brouns, Regional Director, TdH-NL South Asia declared open the new building premises in the presence of Mr. Meru, Program Officer, TdHNL India. |
